Agustín Ibañez

Agustín Ibáñez obteined a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. He specialized in electrophysiology in the Max Plank Institute for Brain Research (Germany) and did postdoctoral studies in the Neuroscience Center of Cuba, the University of Heidelberg (Germany) and CONICET (Argentina). He is professor of different universities in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Germany. He is currently the Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Psychology and Neurosciences at INECO Foundation (Argentina); member of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council-CONICET (Argentina); Co-director of the UDP-INECO Foundation Center for Neurosciences (Diego Portales University-Chile); member of the  Social, Cognitive and Evolutionary Research Link (England) and affiliated researcher of the Center for Social and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Chicago (United States).

He is member of different international scientific societies, such as the Interdisciplinary Center of Neuropsychiatry (University of Heidelberg); Society for Psychophysiological Research (SfPR); Society for Neuroscience (SfN); International Brain Research Organization (IBRO); Society for Social Neuroscience (SfSN) y la International Society for Neuroimaging in Psychiatry (ISNP), among others.

Since 2009, Dr. Ibáñez has organized a number of international events in the field of cognitive and social neurosciences: Neurociencia Social en Latinoamérica, II Simposio Internacional de Neurociencias, Neuropsiquiatría y Neurociencia Social, 2012, Colombia; Seminario Internacional en Neurociencias, Cognición Social y Clínica, 2011, Chile; Workshop en Neurociencias Cognitivas INECO: Integrando las ciencias básicas y aplicadas en el estudio de la mente, 2010, Argentina; I Simposio Internacional de Neurociencias Sociales y Neuropsiquiatría, 2010, Colombia; First Latinamerican Conferences on Multilevel Approaches and Social Neuroscience, Santiago de Chile, 2008; XIII International Course of SCAN -Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry- Santiago de Chile, 2007.

Dr. Ibáñez has published more than 70 papers since 2006 and more than 60 international ISI articles in the last 5 years in cognitive and social neurosciences, specially neuropsychiatry; including high impact journals such as Neurology, Journal of Neuroscience or Nature Reviews, among others. In the last 5 years, he has obteined research funding from different organizations: MESESUP, CONACE and FONDECYT  (Chile); COLCIENCIAS (Colombia); Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovakia); DAAD (Germany); Medical Research Council (United Kingdom); INECO Foundation; FONCYT and CONICET (Argentina). He has been director, co-director and comitee evaluator of more than 19 master and phd research proyects since 2009. He received different international awards and grants like the Nelson Butters Award (International Neuropsychological Society, 2008); the  Latin-American Grant (Society for Psychophysiological Research, 2008,  2009, 2012 y 2013) and the International Society for Neuroimaging in Psychiatry  Award (ISNIP, Elsevier, 2011).

He is consultant at different research councils such as COLCIENCIAS (Colombia), CONICYT and CORFO (Chile),  Wellbeing of Women Research (England), and is Secretary of the Latin-American Chapter on Social Neuroscience of the Society for Social Neuroscience. He also has been ad-hoc reviewer of multiple journals. He is currently Guest Associate Editor of the journal Frontiers In Human Neuroscience.

Dr. Ibáñez lead the research at the LPEN and received from 2010 more than 15 pre and postdoctoral research students from Brasil, Colombia, England, Swizerland, Slovakia, Spain, Holand, Germany and United States (see http://lpeneningles.wordpress.com/people/). He also has established different research international collaborations with centers of excellence such us the University of Heidelberg (Germany); the MRC Cognition and Brian Science Unit of Cambridge and the Edinburgh University (United Kingdom), and the Universities of New York, Caltech, Chicago and Wisconsin (United States), among others.
